1. Who we are

We are The Financial Modeller (ABN 49 227 236 327), an Australian business that builds financial models in Excel. For anything about your personal information, email chiefmodeller@thefinancialmodeller.com.

2. What we collect

  • What you give us with a request: your name, email address, phone number, company or project name, a description of the business, links, and the documents and data you upload.
  • Your account: your name, email address, company, phone number and a securely hashed password. If you sign in with Google, Google tells us your name and email address.
  • What you send later: further information, change requests, claims, feedback, and messages through the forms on our pages.
  • How you use your model: when you open your request or model page and the live preview, which sheets you look at, and each time you download the workbook, with the version, your type of device and your approximate area. We keep this with your request so we can support you and see which parts of our models are used. It records what you opened, never what you typed or saw in it, and uses no cookies.
  • If you pay for anything, Stripe handles the payment. We receive confirmation that you paid and the amount, never your full card details.
  • Technical information: your IP address and browser details when you use the site, used to keep it secure and stop abuse, and, if a page fails, the error and the page it happened on.
  • Your browser keeps a short list of the requests you sent from it, the request you are writing until you send it, and the details you typed at sign-up until our systems have them, so nothing is lost. These copies stay on your device.
  • How you found us and how you use the site: the campaign, advertisement or website that sent you, the pages you visit and the steps you take on them, your type of device and your approximate area (country, state and city, worked out from your connection). Our own measurements do not identify you. With your permission, Google Analytics and, when we advertise with them, Google Ads, Meta and LinkedIn also collect this with cookies and similar tags (see our cookie policy). We keep how you found us with your request or account.
  • Business contact details: we sometimes write to businesses that may find our service useful, such as accounting firms, start-ups and investors. For this we use the names, roles and business contact details that a business publishes, for example on its own website.

We keep what you send us: your requests, descriptions, documents and data, and the models we build from them. Documents you upload may contain information about other people, such as staff or tenants. Only send what we need to build the model.

3. How we use it

  • To build, preview, deliver, update and support your model.
  • To contact you about your request and your account.
  • To process any payments and refunds, and to keep the records the law requires.
  • To keep the service secure and to prevent fraud and misuse.
  • To understand how people find and use the site, and to measure which of our marketing and advertising works.
  • To improve and train our modelling systems, as set out below.

Improving and training our systems

We use the requests, descriptions, documents and data you send us, and the models we build from them, to improve and train our modelling systems, including machine-learning models. All of it is anonymised first: we remove names, contact details, business names and anything else that could identify you, your business or anyone mentioned in your documents.

  • We only train our systems on anonymised information. We do not train them on information that identifies you or your business.
  • We never sell your documents, and we never publish them.
  • Our trained systems learn general patterns, such as how kinds of businesses work and how models fit together. They do not reproduce your documents.
  • You can ask us not to use your requests this way: email chiefmodeller@thefinancialmodeller.com. We will exclude them from future training.

We do not sell your personal information. We send marketing emails only to people who ask for them and to businesses at the contact details they publish, and we stop whenever you ask.

4. Who we share it with

Your information is seen by our team and handled by the service providers that help us run the service, only to provide their services to us:

Our team
The people who build and check models with us, including any contractors, see what they need for that work.
Google Firebase (Google Cloud)
Holds your account and signs you in, confirms email addresses, and receives and stores your requests and documents and the previews and workbooks we deliver.
Vercel
Hosts this website.
Cloudflare
Runs our domain and the secure connection to our systems.
Stripe
Takes any payments and issues refunds.
Resend
Sends our emails.
Google Analytics and advertising partners
Google Analytics, and Google Ads, Meta and LinkedIn when we advertise with them, measure how the site is used and how our advertisements perform. They may set cookies and use what they collect under their own privacy policies.
AI service providers
We use AI tools to help read your documents and prepare your model, under those providers’ terms.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect our rights or someone’s safety.

5. Where it is stored

Your information is kept on our own computers in Australia and with the providers above, some of whom store or process data overseas, including in the United States. By using the service, you consent to that. We take reasonable steps to make sure those providers protect it.

6. How long we keep it

We keep your request, documents and models for as long as you may need them for updates, versions and support, and keep payment records for as long as the law requires. You can ask us to delete your documents and models at any time; we will do so unless the law requires us to keep them.

Information we have anonymised to improve our systems (with names, contact details and anything else that identifies you or your business removed) may be kept after the original is deleted, and what our systems have already learned from it stays part of them.

7. Security

Your request can only be opened with its private link or your account. Information is sent over encrypted connections, and access to our systems is restricted. No system is completely secure, so please keep your private links and sign-in details safe.

8. Your choices and complaints

  • You can ask what personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it.
  • You can ask us not to use your requests, documents and models to improve and train our systems. We will exclude them from future training.
  • You can browse this site without telling us who you are. To request a model we need your name and contact details, because that is how we build and deliver it.
  • Analytics and advertising cookies are off unless you accept them. You can change your choice at any time with , block them in your browser’s settings, or install Google’s Analytics opt-out add-on. The site works the same without them.
  • To stop hearing from us about our service, reply to any of our emails or email us.
  • To ask, or to complain about how we have handled your information, email chiefmodeller@thefinancialmodeller.com. We will reply within 30 days.
  • If you are not satisfied with our reply, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
